Bola Moyo is a small, grassroots organization that forms deep, personal bonds with African communities and walks alongside them in their journey towards a better life.

Bola Moyo was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 2004 with the radical notion that every individual matters and that millions living in extreme poverty is not only an absurdity, but a downright disgrace.

Africans are doing their part to reach out to their communities, but due to limited resources, many efforts are not fully realized. Dedicated village volunteers like our dear Mrs. Malunga, daily house orphans in their homes without even having food or basic medications to give them. Others, like Mrs. Nandoli, desire to see their friends and relatives participating in community gardens that benefit the sick and aged. And young people with HIV, like our friend Happiness, envision a world which does not discriminate or stigmatize based on a tiny virus in blood. Rather, she desires to see her community transformed by people being open with and truly loving each other.

We're committed to creating a better life for people such as these.

This is Caroline.
We met Caroline late one evening after a long, exhausting day under the African sun. Her grandfather, with whom she lived, was experiencing hemmorhoids that were so painful he had stopped eating, and had called us to his side for advice. Then Caroline entered the room, and our world changed. - [more]
